This Makes me Sad

On tumblr last night I was flicking through a couple blogs and I accidentally found myself ensnared in this 'community' of blogs about thinness. About how they wish they could not eat to be thin, posting pictures of half-dead girls with their ribs jutting out and calling them 'beautiful'. The thing I felt most about these 'thinspiration' blogs was pure revulsion. What is wrong with our society if people strive to resemble famine victims? Not that I'm hating on thin girls, you understand, but if you are your natural weight at 8 stone there is a huge difference in appearance of someone who is meant to be 11 stone and starving themselves to be their 'goal weight'. Everyone is gorgeous despite their shape or size or hang-ups or features, especially if they are their natural body weight. A healthy BMI is a plus but it doesn't apply to everyone, and I know girls who are plus-sized but would not look 'right' or healthy if they were a size 8 and vice versa, there are girls who are tiny and petite and thin but are meant to be that way. What are your opinions on this?

  1. I have to agree with you, they are just making themselves ill and it really isn't worth it.
    Do we blame the media?
My parents have always been quite slim so I guess it runs in the family for me, like you said.. meant to be that way.
Hopefully one day this nonsense will all stop.

  3. the thinspiration and proanna blogs make me sad. like you i agree that girls look lovely whatever shape or size, anorexic never looks good. But saying this i do have a lot of serious body issues myself (BDD) but its never been about losing weight to look good, its more about hate & control.

  4. It is a shame that some girls feel that they HAVE to be thin to be pretty. I am a curvy girl and sometimes the media does get me down because all we see are thin girls, therefore we equate thin to beauty. It's a tough inner struggle to just accept your body for what it is. My weight doesn't fluctuate or anything, so I've just learned to love it the way it is. :)

  5. I've read the ana blogs before too, they are really scary. I remember one girl would only drink energy drinks & not eat any food, like ever. It's some scary stuff.

  6. youre right, people think too much about their weight, the fact that designers use size zero models and the media is always gtting at celebrities about their weight does not help either.

  7. Communities like that make me so sad. Everyone is supposed to look different - I wish these girls could realise that they'd look fantastic at the weight they're naturally supposed to be. No one is meant to look as skinny and gaunt as they aspire to be =[
