...or, the day I spent a ridiculous amount of money on foundation and concealer without realising. Eek. After reading Pink Haired Princess' recent post about pale foundations, I thought I'd splash out on something a bit better for myself. When I do wear foundation I was using No7 in Calico and it was far too orange and dark for me. So when I was in Bristol last week I nipped into House of Fraser and talked to the lovely girl on the Lancôme counter.
We tried a couple things and I discovered the issue with the foundation I've been using is 1) it goes cakey because it's too drying for my skin and 2) my skin tone is more a blue-pink than yellow-red, hence the orange look. I ended up going with 02 (Lys Rose) from the Teint Idole Ultra 24H range and I think it suits my skin tone a lot better. The foundation came in at £27.50, which though quite dear was still not much more than the crappy No7 stuff I'd had before. Whilst I was there I decided to pick up some concealer too, which is really where the cost came in because it was nearly as much as the foundation for a quarter of the size! I'd better make it last, hey?
Have any of you ladies used Lancôme, and did you find it to your taste? What's your favourite foundation, and what would you be willing to pay for a really good one?

I love Lancome and I used to buy it before my skin was bad. I liked Photogenic Lumessence which gave me a nice glow. I always wait until there are free gifts and always buy in Boots. I usually get a free make up bag, lipstick, mini mascara and a few moisturisers. I always go to the advantage card machine and print off the 350 points when you spend over £35 voucher too.
ReplyDeleteI'm really into Estee Lauder now, the max coverage hides all my scars and any acne flare ups I have
xx
I think you get what you pay for with foundations, I've found that the times I have splashed out I've used less and so the expensive one has lasted longer! x
ReplyDeletei do not own any posh foundations this is something im working on !! i will have to keep lancome in mind when i go high end make up shopping !!

I've never bought a Lancome foundation but I have had a sample from a counter once that was a lovely shade, in fact I think it may have been this range, and it was refreshing to find one that was actually truly light enough! I think I went with the YSL one instead in the end which was why I didn't buy it, but I think a good foundation and concealer is worth spending that bit extra on in the long run, especially for us pale girls, plus they last such a long time anyway :) I dread to think how much I spent on high street foundations trying to get the right shade actually =X
ReplyDeleteYes, it's the one thing I really think is worth spending more on. No7 and the like are actually creeping up in price all the time, so like you say the Lancome one doesn't seem too bad. I haven't used their concealer before, I'm actually generally not using concealer as much as I used to, which I think is down to better coverage in my foundations. I must start using Teint Idole again, as I only have a teeny bit of Teint Miracle left but can't afford another one just now, so have been using my YSL one mostly (it's easy to get stuck in a rut). I tend to buy when they have an offer on too and/or use my Debenhams rewards. Thanks for linking to me too x
ReplyDeleteYou totally get what you pay for when it comes to foundation and concealer- the pricer stuff lasts longer and works nicer.
